*Chalanī*. This is a word used by Rustam ʿAlī, Bijnorī, in his "History of the Rohelahs", fol. 17*a*: *ḥukm taiyārī sāz ʿarāq, rahkalah, chalanī, gajnāl, shutarnāl kā*. Evidently from the collocation of words it is some sort of offensive weapon. But as to what it is the dictionaries give no help; and I have not met the word elsewhere.
