Pathabāz. The author of the *Husain Shāhī* (written in 1212 H., 1797-8) mentions, fol. 34*b*, that in 1760-1 Sendhiah had several thousand Pathābāz, "a word which in the idiom of the Dakhin is applied to courageous men and expert swordsmen". They received their name, no doubt, from their weapon, the *patta* or straight rapier (see ante p. 77).
