*Army marching.* We possess several detailed accounts of long marches undertaken by the later emperors at the head of large armies. When ʿĀlamgīr died two of his sons fought together for the crown. But at the time of their father's death, one was at Jamrūd, a little west of Peshāwar, and the other was in the imperial camp at Aḥmadnagar in the Dakhin. There were thus about 1200 miles between them; they at once commenced to march towards each other, and finally met in battle in June 1707 between Āgrah and Dholpur.
