According to the *Vividhatīrthakalpa*,⁵⁶ Majjhimapāvā was called Apāvāpurī but since Mahāvīra died here, it was changed into Pāvāpurī. It is identified with Pāvāpurī seven miles to the east of Bihar town in Bihar⁵⁷
