In the *Vasudevahiṇḍī*, Bāravai is mentioned as a chief town of the four *janapadas*, viz, Ānattha, Kusattha, Surattha and Sukkarattha.⁹⁷ According to the *Mahābhārata*, on account of the pressure of Jarāsandha, Kṛṣṇa left Mathurā and founded the city of Dvārakā near the mountain Raivataka.⁹⁸
