The major portion of the Punjab and Sind which came under the survey of the Greek writers, shows only two or three monarchies, the important ones of which were the kingdoms of Poros and the Abhisāras. Otherwise the whole country was republican. This is also evident from Plutarch's (LX) account about Poros.⁵ "Alexander then not only reinstated 'Poros in his kingdom with the title of Satrap, but added a 'large province to it, subduing the inhabitants whose form of 'government was the republican.'"
