§ 157. The Vrishṇis of classical glory fell under the Śaka barbarian leaving behind a couple of coins to tell the story. The orthodox Brāhmī and the republican legend, Vṛishṇi-rājaññyā-gaṇasya trātasya ['of the Vṛishṇi Rājanya (and) Gaṇa—the Protector of the country'] yet remain. But at the same time the coin is obliged to bear the script of the invader, Kharoshṭhī, as well. The coin is marked with the state symbol the weapon *chakra* (discus), which was their symbol according to tradition as early as the time of Rājanya Kṛishṇa. The legend is in scripts of 100 B.C.∗
