(ix) The Purāṇas seem to give a second name of Chandragupta as *Narendra*.² There is evidence that not only the name of the author is in the book, but also the name of the king, ‘*Narendra*,’ whose monogram or mark ‘*Narendrāṅka*’ is directed in the A. to be put on arms (V. 3, p. 247; see also नरेन्द्रारक, II. 10).
