Note. An interesting specimen of a Sanskrit Jayapattra regarding the proprietory right over a female domestic slave (ceṭī) has been discovered in a village in Darbhanga and explained by Jayaswal in JBORS, 1920, pp. 246-258. This Jayapattra which dates from 1794 A.D. corresponds fully to the rules of the law-books to which it expressly refers. On the mediaeval Jayapattra discovered in the island of Java see § 13. Jolly.
