Draupadī. The usual form is well-known but it is hardly possible that the bride could follow her own inclination in such a festive gathering dominated by her father. The Svayaṃvara of the Smṛtis however is a sad contrast to these brilliant marriage parties; here the father of the bride had to hang down his head in shame. R.
