v2.c26.454
*Airinīdāna*¹²⁴³: (Presenting the mother of the bride-groom with several gifts in a large wicker-work basket with lamps lighted and requesting her and the relatives of the bride-groom to treat the bride affectionately). Vide Saṁ. K. p. 811, Dharmasindhu p. 267. A basket of bamboo (*vaṁśa*) is used probably to symbolize the continuity of the family (*vaṁśa*) of the bride-groom. This is done when the bride is about to leave the father's place to go to the bride-groom's place after marriage.
