v2.c26.62
In most of the gṛhyasūtras there is a rite called 'caturthīkarma' (rite on 4th day after marriage). Vide Gobhila II. 5, Śāṅ. gṛ. I. 18-19, Khādira gṛ. I. 4. 12-16, Pār. gṛ. I. 11, Āp. gṛ. 8. 10-11, Hīr. gṛ. I. 23-24 &c. This rite has been described above (pp. 203-204) and corresponds to the garbhādhāna of later writers (e. g. Yāj. I. 11). As cohabitation is expressly mentioned in connection with this rite performed on the fourth day after marriage it follows that girls must have generally been quite grown-up at the time of marriage.
