¹⁹²⁸ It will be noticed that the first and the last verses of each of the ten *maṇḍalas* of the Ṛgveda are repeated in making these oblations of barley mixed with curds. The verse 'tacchamyor-āvṛṇīmahe' is the last verse of the Bāṣkala recension of the Ṛgveda. Those who studied the Bāṣkala *śākhā* were to recite this last verse instead of Ṛg. I. 191. 4. Both Nārāyaṇa and Haradatta point this out and the former remarks 'शाकलसमाम्नायस्य बाष्कलसमाम्नायस्य चेदमेव सूत्रं गुह्यं चेत्यध्येतृप्रसिद्धम्।'. The Bāṣkalaśākhā contained 8 hymns more than the Śākalaśākhā.
