²⁰⁷¹ Even in the e. g. Ṛg. in VII. 49. 3 (yāsāṃ rājā varuṇo yāti madhye) Varuṇa is the lord of waters and therefore it is appropriate that in dedicating wells and tanks to the public Varuṇa should be invoked in several verses.
