²²⁸² The division into ṛk, yajus, and sāman was made even before the Ṛk-saṁhitā was composed. For ṛk, vide Ṛg. X. 71. 11 and X. 90. 9, for *yajus* Ṛg. V. 62. 5 and X. 90. 9, for *sāman* Ṛg. VIII. 95. 7 and I. 164. 25 (the two famous chants called Rathantara and Gāyatra are named). The word 'nivid' occurs in Ṛg. I. 96. 2.
