⁷⁰⁴ ये च शस्त्रामाजीवन्ति । ये चाधिम् । भिषक् । वार्धुषिकः । आप. ध. सू. I. 6.18. 19-22. हरदत्त explains आधि here 'as rent of a house,' because वार्धुषिक occurs a little later. But that sense is very rare and besides hardly any smṛtikāra has condemned the letting out of one's house for rent. It is better to take ādhi as pledge or mortgage and hold that vārdhuṣika refers only to those who lend corn in order to take 1½ times as much (or more) after the rainy season as defined by Nār. IV. 110 quoted above (on p. 417).
