v4.c63.t2.224

(1) Benefits are conferred on the deceased by means of the *ekoddiṣṭa* or the *pārvaṇa śrāddha*. The capacity to perform the pārvaṇa śrāddha is not the sole ground on which rests the right to inheritance to a man. Therefore the widow, the daughter and the pupil were recognized as heirs though they perform only the ekoddiṣṭa śrāddha. But those who are competent to perform the pārvaṇa śrāddha have a preferable claim to those who are entitled to perform only the ekoddiṣṭa śrāddha. Therefore the male issue of a deceased person are preferred to a widow or daughter.
