(4) The piṇḍas offered to paternal ancestors have greater efficacy than those offered to maternal ancestors (hence a brother's son is preferred to a sister's son because the former offers piṇḍas to his own and the owner's paternal ancestors, while the latter offers piṇḍas to his maternal ancestors who are the paternal ancestors of the owner).
