The दत्त. च. (pp. 61, 66) employs the word शुद्धदत्तक for केवलदत्तक. Vide *Laxmipatirao v. Venkatesh* 41 Bom. 315, *Huchrao v. Bhimarao* 42 Bom. 277. It has already been seen (p. 659) that the Mit. employs the words dvyāmuṣyāyaṇa and kṣetraja as synonyms. Nār. (dāyabhāga 23) appears to use it in the same sense, 'द्विषामुष्यायणा दद्युर्द्वभ्यां पिण्डोदके पृथक् । रिक्थादधं समादद्युर्बीजिक्षेत्रिकयोस्तथा ॥. In this verse Nār. does not employ the form dvyāmuṣyāyaṇa, but the word āmuṣyāyaṇa with the adverb 'dviḥ' meaning 'twice'. The word dvyāmuṣyāyaṇa is made up of 'dvi' (two) and 'āmuṣyāyaṇa' (issue of this man, issue of so and so). The word āmuṣyāyaṇa occurs in the Tai. Br. II. 7. 7. 7 (अपां य ऊर्मी रसस्तमह्मस्मा आमुष्यायणाम ओजसा वीर्याय गृह्णामि) and in the Atharvaveda IV. 16. 9, X. 5. 36 and 44, XVI. 7. 8 in the form 'āmuṣyāyaṇa amuṣyāḥ putra'. In the Hira. gr. I. 9. 19 we have इदमहमामुष्यायणस्य पाप्मानमवगूहानि, where Mātṛdatta explains: अमुष्यापत्यं आमुष्यायण इति. Similar words occur in the Bhāradvāja gr. II. 19. Kātyāyana has vārtika 2 'आमुष्यायणामुष्यपुत्रिकेत्युपसंख्यानम्' on Pāṇ. VI. 3. 21. 'Āmuṣyāyaṇa' is formed from 'amuṣya' (of this or that man) in the sense of 'apatya' acc. to Pāṇini IV. 1. 99 (naḍādibhyaḥ phak). In the Āśv. Śr. S. (Uttaraṣaṭka 6. 13) the word 'dvipravacana' is employed for dvyāmuṣyāyaṇa, 'अथ य एते द्विप्रवाचना यथैतच्छौङ्गशैशिरयः' on which Nārāyaṇa explains, य एते द्विप्रवाचना द्वाभ्यामृषिप्रवचनाभ्यामुपेताः यथैते शौङ्गशैशिरयः द्वयामुष्यायणाः शौङ्गेयस्य क्षेत्रे शैशिरेयबीजोत्पन्नानां वंशाः.
