¹⁶²⁷ For the Vaiśarjana *homa*, vide H. of Dh. II. p. 1158. In this a piece of fresh cloth is spread over the sacrificer (who touches the adhvaryu), the sacrificer's wife (who touches the yajamāna), the brother and sons of the sacrificer (who touch the wife). In the Vājapeya, the sacrificial post was 17 *aratnis* in height and 17 pieces of cloth were employed to prepare the appearance of a turban on the tip when enveloping the *yūpa* with a girdle. The figure presented by the cloth covering the yūpa was called यूपहस्तिन् (probably because it looked like the head and trunk of an elephant). 14. 1. 20 and the com. on Kāt.
