¹⁶⁴⁴ जै. 1. 3. 7. will have to be read as 'अपि वा कारणाग्रहणे प्रयुक्तानि प्रतीयेरन् तेष्वदर्शनाद्विरोधस्य' acc. to Kumārila, Khaṇḍadeva and others if Śabara's interpretation of the sūtra is to be accepted. 'तेषु आचमनादिषु क्रमादिविरोधस्यादर्शनाद्वैदिकप्रणीतस्वरूपप्रामाण्यकारणस्याग्रहणे शिष्टैः प्रयुक्तानि आचमनादीनि प्रमाणत्वेन प्रतीयेरन्निति सूत्रार्थः । एवं भाष्यकारेणाधिकरणार्थ उपवर्णितः।' मीमांसाकौस्तुभ on I. 3. 7 p. 36. Kumārila implies a pūrvapakṣa and holds that I. 3. 7 is the sūtra giving the final conclusion only and as an independent adhikaraṇa by itself.
