¹⁷⁹⁹ दीर्घकालं ब्रह्मचर्यं धारणं च कमण्डलोः । सगोत्राद्वा सपिण्डाद्वा विवाहो गोवधस्तथा । नराश्वमेधौ मद्यं च कलौ वर्ज्यं द्विजातिभिः ॥ इत्यादिना मत्स्यदेवपुराणादौ सामान्यतो वर्ज्यत्वेनाभिहितत्वात् । अपरार्क p. 15, स्मृतिच. I. p, 12, परा. मा I. part 1 p. 133. The स्मृतिच., हेमाद्रि III. 2 (p. 665), मदनरत्न and निर्णयसिन्धु (p. 367) read गोत्रान्मातुः सपिण्डाच्च विवाहः which means 'marriage with a daughter of the paternal aunt or with a girl who is a sapiṇḍa of one's mother i. e. maternal uncle's daughter.' The स्मृतिच. attributes these verses to आदिपुराण while निर्णयसिन्धु p. 286 ascribes them to आदिपुराण. The कलिवर्ज्यविनिर्णय reads गोत्रान्मातुस्सपिण्डात्, notices also the reading गोत्रान्मातुः सपिण्डाद् and has a long note on this, citing and refuting various views. According to the मांसतत्त्वविवेक of विश्वनाथ p. 27 even the कल्पतरु quoted this महापुराण passage (reading गोत्रान्मातुस्सपिण्डाद्वा).
