v4.c63.t2.876
¹⁸³⁴ उपाकरण has a technical sense. It means 'touching the animal to be sacrificed with several mantras'. Manu V. 7 employs the word in that sense and Kullūka comments, 'पशुयागादौ मन्त्रबहुलेन पशोः स्पर्शनमुपाकरणम्'. The **कलिवर्ज्यवि.** (9a) quotes देवतामादिशेद्यक्ष्मे त्वा जुष्टमुपाकरोमि. With reference to śrāddha the word upākaraṇa is used in a secondary sense and not in the literal sense. For the upākaraṇa *mantra* अमुष्मै...करोमि, vide **आश्व. गृ.** I. 11. 2.
