Baths that are subsidiary to prāyaścitta are performed with ashes, cowdung, clay, water, pañcagavya and water in which *kuśa* grass has been dipped Mantras that are to be recited at the time of bath are laid down in the Liṅga-purāṇa, the Bhaviṣyapurāṇa and elsewhere.
