व्यास. q. by शुद्धितत्त्व p 300, शुद्धिमकाश p 153. अ. क. The idea was that at the door of यम there was a river called वैतरणी, full of blood and sharp weapons and that there those who donated a cow at the time of death cross that terrible river by holding the cow's tail, vide स्कन्दपु VI 226 32-33 for वैतरणी and verse 34 is 'मृत्युकाले प्रयच्छन्ति ये धेनुं ब्राह्मणार्य वै ॥ . The भाद्धरत्न of लक्ष्मीपति prescribes two *mantras* at the time of donating the वैतरणी cow, one of which is उद्धगे वर्षति शीते वा मारुते पाति वा भृशम् । .
