A question arises why birth and death should cause impurity to the members of the family or to relatives. Only a few have to say anything on this question. Hārīta says· 'the family incurs death impurity because by death the family feels overwhelmed (or frustrated), while when a new life appears the family increases (and there is gratification or joy)'⁶⁰⁵.
