'त्रिणाचिकेत' is explained in different ways viz (1) one who knows the Nācīketa fire, (2) a person who has thrice kindled the Nācīketa fire, (3) a person who has studied the Anuvāka called Virajas. For the Nācīketa fire, vide Kathopaniṣad I. 1. 16-18 The word 'Trinācīketaḥ' occurs in Katha Up I. 1. 17 and is explained by शङ्कर as 'त्रिःकृत्वो नाचिकेतोऽग्निश्चिनो येन सः त्रिणाचिकेतस्तद्विज्ञानस्तदध्ययनस्तदनुष्ठानवान् वा। Tai Br (III. 11. 7-8) describes the नाचिकेत fire and the story of Naciketas The five fires are Gārhapatya, Āhavanīya, Dakṣiṇāgni, Āvasathya (or aupāsana) and Sabhya Vide H. of Dh. vol II. p 679 Vide *ibid*. II. p 767 note 1838^a for explanations of पङ्क्तिपावन, ज्येष्ठसामिक and the other words explained above देवल defines श्रोत्रिय as 'एकां शाखां सकल्पां वा षड्भिरङ्गैरधीत्य वा । षट्कर्मनिरतो विप्रः श्रोत्रियो नाम धर्मवित् ॥' q. by श्रा प्र p 59. Pāṇinī (V. 2.84) derives श्रोत्रिय as श्रोत्रियश्छन्दोधीते षट्कर्म--refers to यजनयाजनाध्ययनाध्यापनप्रतिग्रहदानानि.
