(Jīv vol. II p 563). The first verse is really Ṛg. सायग takes this vedic verse as referring to पुरुषोत्तम in the words यद्दारु दारुमयं पुरुषोत्तमाख्यं देवताशरीरं * हे दुर्हणो दुःखेन हननीय केनापि हन्तुमशक्य हे स्तोतः आरभस्व अवलम्बस्व उपास्स्वेत्यर्थः *. सायण mentions a predecessor's interpretation of this verse viz. that it is addressed to an evil spirit (alakṣmī) and asks it to resort to a boat or a log of wood (as a scapegoat) and to go to a far-off region where there are no human beings. This interpretation is natural and suits the context very well I could not trace the verse in the Atharvaveda
