²¹⁹ Nyāsa is mystical sanctification of the several limbs of the body with Vedic mantras (such as the 16 verses of Ṛgveda X 90) or other mantras. Vide H. of Dh. vol II. pp 319-320, 739 and 900 The Mūlamantra is either of six letters, viz. श्रीरामरामेति or of thirteen letters, viz. श्रीरामजयरामजयजयरामेति In these days the priest sometimes repeats Ṛg. X 3. 3 as the Vedic mūlamantra 'भद्रो भद्रया सचमान आगात् स्वसारं जारो अभ्येति पश्चात् । सुप्रकेतैर्द्युभिरग्निर्वितिष्टन् रुशद्भिर्वर्णैरभि राममस्थात् ॥'. Here the word राम occurs, though in a different sense. सायण explains 'रामं कृष्णं शार्थरं तमः'.
