Ekādaśī, like all other tithis, is of two kinds, viz sampūrṇā and viddhā or khaṇḍā The general definition²⁸⁸ of the sampūrṇā tithi is that when a tithi has the extent of 60 ghaṭikās commencing from the time of sunrise it is called sampūrṇā To this ekādaśī was stated by the Skandapurāṇa²⁸⁹ to be an exception In the case of Ekādaśī the Garuḍapurāṇa²⁹⁰ and Bhaviṣya lay down that ekādaśī is sampūrṇā only when it exists also two muhūrtas (i. e. 4 ghaṭikās) before sunrise of the day on which it exists for the whole civil day.
