v6.c81.492

³³⁰ The passage about the killing of Kaṁsa is interesting. इह तर्हि कथं वर्तमानकालता कंसं घातयति बलिं बन्धयतीति चिरहते कंसे चिरनद्धे च बलौ? (महाभाष्य ed. by Kielhorn, vol. II. p. 36). This shows that in the time of the महाभाष्य the killing of Kaṁsa (by Kṛṣṇa) was supposed to have taken place in hoary antiquity. Patañjali states further on that Kaṁsavaddha was represented dramatically, that pictures were painted about it and lastly that works had been composed narrating that event.
