(*Continued from last page*) This is बृहद्योगियाज्ञवल्क्य I 27 quoted also by हेमाद्रि on व्रत vol I p. 247. शङ्कराचार्य in his भाष्य on ब्रह्मसूत्र I. 3 30 quotes the following as a Vedic text which occurs several times in the Ait Br 'यो ह वा अविदितार्षेयच्छन्दोदैवतब्राह्मणेन मन्त्रेण याजयति वाध्यापयति वा स्थाणुं वर्च्छति गर्तं वा प्रतिपद्यते ' तस्मादेतानि मन्त्रे मन्त्रे विद्यात्।' Vide also छान्दोग्योपनिषद् I 3 8-10 'येन साम्ना स्तोष्यन्स्यात्तत्सामोप-धावेत्। Vide note 1276 for the ऐ ब्रा passage which requires that the mantra employed should refer to the rite that is being performed.
