¹⁷³⁷ The original verses I. 22-24 are in Prākrit. Their Sanskrit equivalents are set out here ॥ It is quite possible that the name भैरवानन्द is doubly suggestive The पारानन्दसूत्र mentions several Tāntrik teachers whose names end in आनन्द such as अमृतानन्द (pp 54, 73), उन्मादानन्द (pp 54, 72, 76), ज्ञानानन्द (pp 54, 73, 91), देवानन्द (p 44), परानन्द (pp. 72, 91 the author of पारानन्दसूत्र), सुखानन्द (p. 54), सुरानन्द (pp 54, 70, 72). Besides, several teachers have the word भैरव as part of their names and are profusely quoted in the पारानन्दसूत्र, viz. आकाशभैरव (9 times), उन्मत्तभैरव (17 times), कालभैरव (11 times); भैरव as an author is mentioned once on p. 66 राजशेखर probably meant a hit at one or more of these *(Continued from last page)* tāntrik authors who favoured the makāras. Acc. to Intro. (p. XII) to पारानन्दसूत्र, the work was composed probably between 900 to 1200 A. D. The परशुराम कल्पसूत्र (I 40) provides that after दीक्षा the guru is to give a name to the disciple ending in आनन्दनाथ. The महानिर्वाण (X. 182) also says the same thing.
