¹⁷⁷¹ यदपि देवीपुराणे—वामदक्षिणवेत्ता यो मातृवेदार्थपारगः। स भवेत्स्थापकः श्रेष्ठो देवीनां मातॄ(तृणां?) सु च। पञ्चरात्रार्थकुशलो मातृतन्त्रविशारदः। &c अपरार्क p. 16, who then quotes Matsya 265. 1-5 for the qualifications of sthāpaka in which there is no reference to वाम, दक्षिण or तन्त्र. This and the quotations from the Bhāgavata indicate that the Matsya was composed some centuries before the देवीपुराण and भागवतपुराण
