v7.c92.227

It was further provided¹⁸¹¹ that there was no *siddhi* (miraculous powers due to mantras) nor moksa for him who had not had dīkṣā performed for him, that therefore a man should by all means receive dīkṣā from a guru and that when one is endowed with the ceremony of dīkṣā the distinctions based on caste vanish and a śūdra and a brāhmaṇa cease to be so (when both have undergone dīkṣā) It was held that, if a person were to engage in the japa of a mantra written in a book, he would not secure siddhi and he would surely meet losses at every¹⁸¹² step.
