²⁶⁰³ While these pages were passing through the press, I received Prof. Toynbee's 'Reconsiderations' (Vol XII of his Study of History) on p 184 of which he revises his opinion by saying "the maintenance of the brahmans' monopoly of the religious ministry gives Indian History a continuity throughout the period running from the Aryan invasion to the impact of the West".
