Swāmī Vivekānanda uttered the following exhortation long ago "The ignorant Indian, the poor and destitute Indian, the Brahman Indian, the Pariah Indian is my brother." "Repeat and pray day and night 'O Lord of Gaurī! make me a man' " quoted in "Sources of Indian Tradition" by W. T. de Bary and others (New York, 1958) p. 659.
