I have been a member of the Managing Committee of the Bombay Asiatic Society for about 45 years, a Vice-President and one of the editors of the Journal of the Society for many years. I contributed many long articles to the Journal of the Society and to the Annals of the Bhandarkar Institute. In 1946 at my request Dr. B. C Law, a great scholar, whom I had never seen but who had become an admirer of my books, donated Rs three thousand (for purchase of books for the Society) and donated five thousand rupees for founding a medal called P. V. Kane Gold Medal to be awarded once every three years to a scholar who had done substantial research in subjects in which I was interested.
