The details of the ceremony are interesting. The Brahman Purohita placed a fillet of gold on the forehead of the king, and after due prayers and the chanting of the relevant mantras poured the *abhiṣēcana* water on the king. It is said, for instance, that the coronation of Veṅkaṭa II was performed by Tātayārya the king’s guru and by other Brahmans.⁶
