This is shown by a few inscriptions of the period. An epigraph at Tiruvāmāttūr in the South Arcot district details the several taxes and contributions realised from the devadāna village and adds that the total annual value of these several taxes was only 12 pon. As the Government Epigraphist remarks, "this, if it could be taken as the average, suggests that the assessment of the several taxes in coin and contributions in kind must have adopted a very low rate."336
