A lithic record of A.D. 1400 from a village in the Kaḍūr district in Mysore states that the Halamuttūr village in the Sāntaḷige nāḍ together with its hamlets (named) and plains was rated at 84 hon and 1 3/4 haṇa.⁶⁹ An inscription from a village in the Shimoga taluk, in the district of the same name, records that the total revenue from five villages in the Āragaveṇṭhe was 210 (?).70 An epigraph at Cidambaram in the South Arcot district belonging to the time of Acyuta Rāya states that the income from four villages near Cidambaram was 500 *pon*.⁷¹ But such information is not forthcoming in sufficient fullness to enable us to calculate the total revenue that went to the state. Rice's estimate that it amounted to 81 crores of *Avakoṭi cakras* or pagodas is based on the authority of some old manuscripts of doubtful accuracy. But it seems that it is an exaggerated figure, for it is really difficult to believe that the region south of the river Kṛṣṇa could have contributed so much by way of taxes.
