¹ A gāthā, however, derives the name from 'Vessavithi' the Vessa or Vaiśya street, where he is said to have been born: J. VI, p. 482 G. 1700. But this seems to be only a pun on the word. The real form, as is clear philologically, should be Viśvantara which we find in the Tibetan version: *Tibetan Tales*, pp. 257 ff.
