If however the rajju of the Rajjuggāhaka Amacca had the technical meaning of a measure of length, it might then correspond to that of Kauṭilya which was equal to 10 daṇḍas or about 40 yards: Arthaśāstra, III, 20; Cf. I. H. Q., III, pp. 817-8. In the copperplate grants of the 6th century A. D. we have "pādāvarta" (a square foot) as a measure of length and also Kulyāvāpa as that of land area, See Fleet, G.
