⁷ The defaulting wood-wrights of the *Samuddavāṇija Jātaka*, J., IV, 159, reach an ocean-island from Benares. From here also Saṅkha, the Brāhmaṇa goes to Suvaṇṇabhūmi: IV, p. 15. Pāṭaliputta (Patna), coming between Campā and Benares, is not mentioned in the stories. It was perhaps a very small village at that time as testified by the Buddha himself. See *Dīgha Nikāya* II, 86. The celebrated Visākhā journeyed from Campā to Śrāvastī by boat. *Tibetan Tales*, pp. 115-6.
