Loud at her bellowed Duḥçāsana in anger,
Hastening he ran to the prince’s wife,
And took her by her long hair,
That flowed down black in heavy waves.
The hair that at the great sacrifice of the king
Was moistened by the prayer-consecrated water of the closing bath,
It the son of Dhṛitarāṣṭra boldly touched,
Bringing shame on the hero soul of the Pāṇḍavas.¹
