We may recall in this connexion the information furnished by North Indian evidence regarding the office of the guild or assembly. We have already referred to a Nāsik inscription stating how in the Nigama-Sabhā or in the assembly hall of a town the terms of a gift were publicly announced (*śrāvita*) and were then duly registered or entered in the books (*nibaddha*). We have also seen how archaeo-logical exploration has brought to light monuments representing the public offices of the guilds.
