There are many instances on record of the lower and poorer classes making gifts to temples. No. 241 of 1912 mentions the gift of five lamps by shepherds. No. 274 of 1910 records another gift made by twelve families of fishermen under an agreement signed by the overseers of the division (*Nāḍu-kan-katchi*).
