There was to be left some open space between houses (*Sarvavāstukāyoḥ prākshiptakayor vā kish-kurantarikā tripadī vā*). There should be windows in each house for ventilation (*prakāśārtham alpam ūrdhvaṁ vātāyanaṁ kārayet*). The rules governing house-building could be determined by common consent so as to prevent mutual inconvenience (*Sambhūya vā grihasvāmino yatheshṭam kārayeyur anishṭam vārayeyuḥ*).
