Epidemics (*Upanipāta-pratīkāra*). Special measures were adopted in the time of epidemic outbreaks. Physicians went about the town distributing medicines (*aushadhaiḥ chikitsakāḥ*) while saints and ascetics were busy adopting religious remedies. The same measures were adopted in respect of cattle-plague (*paśu-vyādhi-marake*) [IV. 3].
