Numbers of Towns. The Greek writers further tell us that the territories of Porus comprised “5000 considerable cities, and villages without number” [Plutarch, Alexander LX]. The republican people called *Glauchukāyanaka* (Glaussaii) boasted of 37 towns within their small territory. Megasthenes ascribes some 30 towns to the Āndhra country alone [Frag. LVIX].
